Lucky’s Coffee Roasters began in June 2019 with a simple idea: bring great coffee closer to home.
Founder and owner Tyler Smith, an Upland native, built his career in specialty coffee through his work with the Specialty Coffee Association (SCA) and coffee equipment manufacturers like Wilbur Curtis. He helped establish the SCA’s Roasters Guild and Coffee Technicians Guild and ran his own cold brew business before opening Lucky’s. His work took him around the world, but he wanted to bring the coffee experiences he found along the way back to his own community in the Inland Empire.
Lucky’s opened its first café in Upland in 2019 before expanding to Claremont, where it now calls home. Just off historic Route 66, its café and roastery offer a welcoming space and spacious patio where neighbors and guests can grab a cup of coffee and see the roasting process firsthand.
“Community, not competition” is the spirit behind Lucky’s, reflected in the people who make the coffee and the connections built over every cup. That community focus goes hand in hand with a dedication to exceptional coffee and the farmers who grow it. Since 2024, the roastery has earned more than 40 coffee awards, including 36 at the Global Coffee Awards and Golden Bean Championship in September and October 2026.
For Lucky’s, it all comes back to putting down roots in the Inland Empire and building something that can be part of the community for generations to come.

At our core, we are people that love our community. Coffee is a space where people come together for different reasons. For us, that means that what we do is unique to us at Lucky's, and we do our best to support both our coffee community and local community without the competitive mindset. If we support one another, we can all be successful. Coffee is community, not competition.
